Research Group on Communication, Politics and Citizenship

Created in 2018 and formalized with the DGP / CNPq in April 2019, CICLO – Research Group on Communication, Politics and Citizenship conducts theoretical and empirical research with a view to the development of the field of Communication and its interdisciplinary relations. CICLO consists of the following lines: Line 1 – Media Criticism and Consumer Experiences; Line 2 – Media processes, practices and narratives; Line 3 – Communication and Gender; and Line 4 – Democracy, Media and Politics.

Based on contemporary discussions and critical readings, CICLO stands out for the quality production of its members and for the articulation since its genesis with national and international collaboration projects, highlighting: a) integration with the AMLat Network (thematic network of cooperation “Communication, citizenship, education and integration”, which involves several countries in Latin America); and b) project partnerships with the research groups ALTERJOR / ECA-USP (Research Group on Popular and Alternative Journalism), GRIM / UFC (Research Group on the Relationship Childhood, Youth and Media), PráxisJor / UFC (Research Group Praxis in Journalism), ESC / UFF (Ethics in the Consumer Society) and MARGEM / UFMG (Research Group on Democracy and Justice) and NEMP / CEAM-UnB (Nucleus for Studies on Media and Politics at UnB).

Coordinated by Prof. Dr. Vinicius Souza and with vice-coordinator of Profa. Dr. Tamires Coêlho, the group also counts among its members with other professors from PPGCOM / UFMT such as professors Bruno Araújo, Pâmela Craveiro and Luãn Chagas, in addition to other professors from FCA / UFMT, such as Nealla Machado, Dôuglas Ferreira and Carlos Augusto da Rocha Júnior, and 20 undergraduate and graduate students.

Research Group Digital Interactive Media 

Leader: Professor Andréa Ferraz Fernandez

Coordinated by Professor Andréa Ferraz Fernandez, MID – Digital Interactive Media Research Group was born in 2008, linked to the Communication area and physically based at UFMT. It has an interdisciplinary profile and develops activities of a theoretical and pragmatic nature based on proposals related to digital media.

Research and publications in progress and planned observe: 1) the narrative and media structures, 2) the intersections between communication and power, 3) ways that take the science communication and 4) the field of cultural economics; all of them interrelated with cultural decolonial theory.

Currently, the MID Research Group brings together 3 researchers, 7 students – including undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students, 1 technician and 1 foreign collaborator. It also maintains active interaction with the Facultad de Comunicación de Málaga, in Spain.

The MID consists of three lines of research: Line 1 – Communication and Cultural Mediations; Line 2 – Communication for Disaster and Risk; Line 3 – Narratives and Media Structures.
