Welcome to PPGCOM

The creation of the Postgraduate Program in Communication at the Federal University of Mato Grosso was approved by Resolution Nº. 104, of the University Council for Education, Research and Extension, on August 8, 2019. Submitted to CAPES, the proposal received a recommendation on November 28 of the same year.

As a result of the collective effort of professors from the Journalism, Advertising and Propaganda, Radio and Cinema and Audiovisual courses, PPGCOM emerged in a moment of symbolism for UFMT and the Communication area in the state. In 2020, the institution celebrates 50 years of existence and 30 years of the foundation of its undergraduate course in Social Communication.

In December 1990, the first steps in the history of higher education in communication in Mato Grosso were given by a group of pioneering teachers coming from the market mostly. Since then, the Communication Department at UFMT has trained hundreds of professionals and has undergone several transformations that expanded the growth prospects of the Communication field in Mato Grosso, laying the foundations for the creation of the first strictu postgraduate course in Communication in the state.

The increase in the number of students in the undergraduate courses and the improvement of the physical conditions of the courses, the number of doctoral professors and the hiring of new teacher-researchers, coming from graduate programs in different regions of the country. These were some of the achievements of the Communication Department at UFMT in recent decades.

These factors were decisive for deepening the field of research in communication at UFMT, such as the increase in the number of projects, many in partnership with other institutions, the creation of research groups connected with national and international networks and the constitution of a critical mass formulated from the performance of teachers in different spaces of reflection.

Objetives of PPGCOM

– Encourage scientific and research development in the Communication Field with the aim of increasing the training of researchers in the Midwest of Brazil.

– Develop research and publications that investigate the tensions between communicational processes and power relations in politics and citizenship, in the aesthetics and narratives involved in the various objects researched.

– Contribute to the critical and empirical training of professionals in order to impact the labor market in its many aspects.

– To train researchers, teachers and professionals interested in issues related to the interface between communication and power, in the field of critical thinking interests.

– Establish interchange and scientific cooperation relations with national and international teaching and research institutions.

– Improve the processes for updating undergraduate courses through classes, seminars, scientific initiation guidance, insertion of non-regular students and other academic events.
